The Brazilian Guarantees Agency (ABGF) will participate in the Program for Support to Municipal Concessions, launched on Wednesday (25), at the Ministry of Planning, Development and Management (MP), in Brasília. The objective of the program is to open a new front of incentives to leverage the economy of the Brazilian municipalities.

Six municipalities were selected to carry out pilot projects for concessions on public lighting, basic sanitation, solid waste disposal, urban mobility, among others. They are: Juazeiro (BA), Uberaba (MG), Bauru (SP), Teresina (PI), São Simão (GO) and Porto Alegre (RS).

The federal government will support the municipalities by assisting them on technical and legal feasibility studies and providing financial resources through funds from Caixa Econômica Federal and Banco do Brasil, with a projected contribution of R$ 180 million by 2019.

The federal support should leverage up to R$ 4 billion in investments, contributing to improve the conditions of employment and income. The ABGF can participate in the program by providing guarantees in the project preparation phase and also in the execution stage of the projects.

“The municipal concessions represent a viable alternative to increase the local economy and I am very much betting that, realizing the opportunity we are offering, companies will help to foster this process,” said the Minister of Planning Dyogo Oliveira during the launch of the program that was attended by the CEO of ABGF, Marcelo Franco.
